bathroom remodel

1. Paint

Not just any paint will do. You’ve got to consider the color of the tiles in your shower. If they’re beige, don’t paint the walls beige. Instead, look for a paint color that’s going to contrast (and complement!) your tiles. You don’t have to go crazy with colors, though. Like any other room in your house, neutral is good.

For example, if you’ve got a shower chock full of white tiles, a nice gray paint will make a statement — without going over the top.

2. Re-grouting

If the tile around your tub is looking a little rough, you don’t have to rip it all out and get new stuff. Instead, a good re-grouting job can work wonders. New grout will eliminate mold and mildew stains that have been an eyesore for years. In fact, once you’re done, it will look like you went out bought new tiles!

3. Replace the toilet seat

Odds are your entire toilet isn’t an eyesore, but the seat is probably worn. If your toilet looks outdated, a brand new seat can make all the difference. And, as an added benefit, all you have to do is screw it in. That’s way better than having to buy and install an entire new toilet!

4. A new shower curtain

You’d be amazed at the impact your shower curtain makes. If it’s dingy and faded, your entire bathroom is going to look dingy and faded. So, if you’re looking for an instant pick-me-up, go out and buy a new shower curtain (and hooks, too!). It only takes a little bit of money and a couple of minutes to put up, but the difference can be dramatic!

This is an especially-important tip if your house is on the market. By upgrading your shower curtain, you can make your bathroom feel more luxurious and spa-like — which is something that today’s buyers love. And, best of all, you can take the shower curtain with you if you really fall in love with it!

5. Re-glazing

If you’re willing to spend a few hundred dollars, a re-glazing can make it look like you have a brand new bathtub. You’ll need a professional to do this job, but the end result is well worth it.

If your tub is an outdated color (avocado green, anyone?), a re-glazing is an absolute must!

6. A new mirror

If you wish you could have a more spacious bathroom, you don’t have to knock down walls and extend it. All you need to do is get a bigger and better mirror. Remember, mirrors make rooms look bigger, so if you’ve only got a small bathroom mirror, replace it with one that covers up your entire wall.

Even if you’re OK size-wise, a new mirror can be a must if your existing one has a frame around it. The wrong frame can look hopelessly outdated, so if you’re looking for something that will stand the test of time, opt for a frameless mirror.

7. New hardware

You may only have a couple of drawer handles and cabinet pulls, but if they’re ugly or outdated, it can ruin an otherwise-great bathroom. Luckily, bathroom hardware is cheap to replace. Plus, it’s so easy to do, you can do it yourself!
